People and the Planet is a multi-faceted media initiative that examines the relationship between people and the natural world through the lens of health and wellness. We travel the globe to reveal untold stories about how people are using tools found in the environment to heal. 24 short online videos will be produced and distributed in mainstream media outlets, packaged into a television series, and compiled into a book.
Our message stems from Jacques Cousteau statement, “We protect the things we love,” and is designed to be the antidote to cause fatigue, and bring hope as we show the possibilities for a sustainable and thriving future. Because sometimes, you need to see in order to believe.
Recent research shows that negative messaging about the state of the environment is having an adverse affect, and that positive messaging supported with science and solutions is having a positive influence. While the media performs their task of informing us of the impending crisis’ that are upon us, that is only half the story. We are missing the stories about how our planet is healing, satiating, and nourishing us during these trying economic times.
Now is the time to harness the power of the online media to forge the vision of how people can live in a thriving sustainable planet.
The time has come to shift our modern mythology from, “People are stealing from the planet,” to “People and the Planet are learning to thrive and heal together.”
Our first story takes place in the warm waters of Dominican Republic and explores what sounds impossible: healing people in the presence of whales. We will explore the possibilities through the eyes of Rebecca’s clients, and will witness people she is healing, understand the mysterious spinning that happens when people come into contact with whales, and interview respected biologists who can question and explain Rebecca’s methods. This highly visually stimulating adventure takes places under water, showing rarely captured footage of people interacting with whales as we explore how the natural element of ocean plays a crucial role in her healing practice.
